Postans takes its name from George Postans, a settler who arrived in the colony as a convict and bought 100 acres here in 1882, in an area formerly known as Caledonia. Little of that farming history remains today. The suburb is effectively unpopulated and now given over to quarries, an alumina refinery tailings pond, a wastewater treatment plant, and the Medina Research Station run by the state’s agriculture department, all served off Thomas Road. It’s a working landscape shaped by decades of quarrying and industrial land use rather than any remaining township.

Comprehensive Pre Purchase Building Inspections
Every Postans inspection is carried out by a licensed registered builder (BP104751), not a generalist with a checklist. We physically access roof voids, subfloors and external structures wherever it’s safe to do so, and we inspect against the building code our inspectors have spent their careers working under. On Postans’s industrial and research buildings, our builder-inspectors check slab and hardstand condition against nearby quarrying and tailings ground disturbance, and assess roof sheeting and fire exit compliance across the site.

Termite & Pest Inspection Postans
A full timber pest inspection is included with every combined booking, not bolted on as an upsell. We check for active subterranean termite activity, evidence of past activity, termite conducive conditions, failed or expired chemical barriers, and wood borer activity across the property, fencing and outbuildings.
Postans’s older timber-framed research and industrial buildings can attract timber pests, particularly where garden plantings or old timber structures remain near the research station, and our commercial building and pest inspection checks for activity.

Huge thanks to Russ at WA Building Inspections. He made time to come back out to my place in Ashby promptly and thoroughly assessed a front-elevation/portico water-ingress issue. I posted the following last Friday 6 September "Your inspector missed a major structural fault. Window had been removed by former owner lintel support removed supporting the roof of our garage not good enough". Russell contacted us and visited our home and explained that we had not contracted his company to inspect our free standing garages - these are not included in a review unless the owner specifically requests this. Despite the fact that this was not his oversight Russell visited us and offered to pay for the bricklayer to build brick piers to support the garage roof. Russell was concerned that we were out of pocket because of our oversight, hence his offer. Note to self read the contract in future !! Free standing garages are rare in Perth nowadays this problem probably does not occur very often. Russell really does care about his customers. Russell will also make sure that clients are made more aware in future of this and I suggested that the report could have included a note about the garage being present but not included in the report. Thank you for caring about us Russell. I would now Rate WA Building Inspections as 5 stars

Exceptionally thorough inspection completed by Russell. We got a combined building and termite inspection and received an 82 page report with so much detail and pictures. Major structural defects were detected and Russell was available to discuss the report further and even recommended a trade to conduct the work. Russell was so helpful in presenting the real condition of the property and in explaining the issues that might or might not cost me after the acquisition of the asset. I have added the thermography to ascertain the real condition of the property. Thermo report gave us an insight on what is exactly there behind the walls and the ceilings which cannot be seen through the naked eyes and Russell explained the technicality of the issues captured through thermographic inference.
Hopefully the acquired asset must be all right as per the report and I feel it will be...

I will like to commend my 100% recommendations, for Russell and the crew at wa building inspections Perth . They have been nothing but helpful, thorough and considerate, when it comes to assisting with inspection of our new home to be. Russel McCarthy was absolutely 100% on the mark and worth twice the money I outlaid vs what it would have cost me to fix mistakes he picked up during my house build.
Sarah in the office was always fast to schedule in times to check the key completion stages of the build for checking and Russel was always on point for the right standards and even just the minimum quality finish of works completed by all trades.
They were also flexible with a whole range of payment options.
Apologies for being blunt but if you are building or renovating these days it is a no brainer to have an inspector in your corner.
If I ever build again, I will be budgeting for a building inspector again with no hesitation.

Best decision I made. Russell is an absolute legend. Answered all my questions, explained everything beautifully, patient, and most importantly - had my back when dealing with the builders. I had to go through 2 PCIs with the builders, finally on the 3rd did they fix all the issues. If it wasn't for Russell's knowledge and advice, I never would've gotten my house in the acceptable condition it is now. We had a fantastic experience with Russell recently with a pre-purchase inspection. My husband and I are first home buyers and have very little first hand experience with building issues and we were absolutely blown away by Russell's knowledge, patience and pride in his work. Russell McCarthy was able to fit us in very last minute despite already being booked out. We had a strict contract deadline and the outcome of his review was going to determine the success or failure of our property purchase. The fact that he went over and above to help us despite being hotly in demand demonstrates his humility and strong passion to help others which goes beyond just doing his job. He is highly rated and the best in his field yet is down to earth and genuinely kind. I will only use him going forward and recommend others do the same. A property purchase is a big financial decision and not worth risking by going to anyone other than Russell.

The whole process was seamless and easy from start to finish. WA BIP liaise with the agents to organise inspections and the report provided is thorough. The inspection was organised at short notice and the report was provided within a few days.
The inspector (Russell in our case) took the time to explain his findings in a manner even a dummy like me can understand!

Russell carried out the PCI (Practical Completion Inspection) for our first property (in Willetton) on Wednesday the 21st of September 2022. He conducted the inspection very professionally. He arrived well in advance at the property. So, when we went to meet him at the site he was already halfway through the inspection.
After he had finished inspecting the home he discussed, both with us and with the Builder appointed Site Supervisor, about the various aspects of the inspection in plain & clear terms. The discussion was a learning experience for us (the clients) as we learnt some essential things about building structures.
Inspection Report was detailed, specific and clear. Also, his T&Cs are acceptably good. Last but not least, his service is reasonably priced and is affordable. If asked I will definitely recommend him to my friends and I am confident they will thank me for recommending Russell & WA Building Inspections.

I chose him because of all his positive reviews and that paid off as he was so thorough and found many defects.. every dollar spent was worth it as I would have never picked up many of those faults myself and I’m extremely grateful .
